The number of granted Austrian citizenships increased by about 10 percent year-on-year for the first quarter of 2015 to reach 1,925, Statistics Austria revealed on Monday.

The state of Burgenland recorded a particularly noticeable increase, the 48 naturalizations representing a 1,500 percent increase over the first quarter in 2014. Vorarlberg came in second with a 29.9 percent increase, while the national capital of Vienna lay further back with a 10.7 percent increase.

Over half of all citizenships were granted to people with a legal claim, having lived in Austria for at least six years and meeting further criteria such as having been born in Austria, being well integrated, on asylum grounds, or having European Economic Area (EEA) citizenship. Endit
