Russia-led military alliance CSTO completes joint training in Tajikistan

Xinhua, May 18, 2015 Adjust font size:

Russia-led Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) has completed a drill of its rapid reaction force at the Harbmaydon training ground in the southern Tajik province of Khatlon, the CSTO press service said Monday.

The drill, designed to test the combat readiness of the CSTO contingents, involved over 2,500 military personnel, about 200 units of military hardware, 20 fighter jets as well as three military transport aircraft.

Through the collective training, soldiers from Tajikistan, Russia, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Belarus upgraded their skills, and the command got a chance to practice operational planning, the CSTO press service said.

Established in May 1992, the CSTO now groups Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.

In February 2009, the bloc agreed to set up a collective rapid reaction force to combat terrorism, military aggression and drug trafficking.

So far, six of the CSTO members have signed the agreement to join the collective force. Endi
