Czech national wanted for multiple rapes arrested in S. Philippines

Xinhua, May 18, 2015 Adjust font size:

Police in southern Philippines on Sunday arrested a Czech national wanted for multiple rape in his home country, the authorities said Monday.

Jaroslav Dobes, 44, was apprehended by provincial and local police as well as agents from the Philippines Bureau of Immigration at a resort in the seaside town of Dapa, in Mindanao' s Pacific province of Surigao del Sur around 7:20 a.m., local time, Superintendent Martin Gamba, Caraga regional police spokesperson, said.

The Czech man is facing multiple rape charges, and has been a subject of an international manhunt in connection with the rape of over 300 women whom he lured into his self-style healing convent he established in the Czech city of Zlin, in the country's central region of Moravia between 2002 to 2007.

Known as "Guru Jara", "Om" or as the "Uber Alpha Male", Dobes fled with a female companion to Asia in 2007, and was convicted by a Czech court last year for the rape of at least eight women.

The Philippine authorities have also issued a deportation order against Dobes in 2005, police said.

The suspect was now in the custody of Philippine immigration officials, police said. Endi
