Two policemen and two leftwing rebels were killed in a gunbattle between security personnel and Naxalite rebels in the central Indian state of Chhattisgarh's Bijapur district on Sunday, said local media.

The Times of India quoted police forces as saying a police jawan was also injured in the fighting in a dense forest Sunday morning.

The Naxalite rebels are estimated to have some 10,000 members and are active in about 10 states engaging government forces in poor and remote rural areas. Endi
