Interview: Those arrive first to enjoy most benefits: Chinese director Wuershan

Xinhua, May 15, 2015 Adjust font size:

Chinese movie director Wuershan, along with the cast, presented Thursday the international press in Cannes with a breathtaking exclusive trailer of the fantasy movie The Ghouls.

"The film is adapted from a very popular novel in China," Weurshan said in an interview with Xinhua at the ongoing 68th Cannes Film Festival.

"The novel is composed of eight books, so there are too many elements in it. In the film we had only two hours, so the challenge was to show in the film the best part of the novel," Weurshan said.

In order to "find the elements I needed, it took me a lot of time and energy, but I learned a lot during that period. For the rest the job on the set with the cast was very smooth and successful, and the actors were really professional," he added.

Talking about the future of the Chinese domestic film market, Wuershan said: "I'm positive about the future. I see a strong collaboration with filmmakers from other countries; our film market is the biggest at the moment and I believe that Chinese films will be the center of the future cinema world. The first ones that are going to realize this will be the first to get the best chances inside our film market."

"This is only the beginning of our film market," he said, adding that, since there are a lot of small cities without a movie theatre, there is a huge audience potential.

Despite of the language and cultural differences, those who arrive first in the Chinese market will enjoy most the benefits, said Wuershan. Endit
