UN chief Ban Ki-moon to visit Vietnam

The United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon will pay a visit to Vietnam on May 22-23 at the invitation of Vietnamese President Truong Tan Sang, said a Vietnamese official here on Thursday.

Le Hai Binh, spokesperson of Vietnam's Ministry of Foreign Affairs made the announcement at a regular press briefing held in capital Hanoi on Thursday.

According to Binh, the Vietnam-UN relations have enjoyed comprehensive developments, with high-ranking leaders of Vietnam and UN conducting regular exchanges and contacts to boost the relations.

During the upcoming visit by Ban Ki-moon to Vietnam, Vietnam looks forward to strengthening the relations and increasing effectiveness in use of UN's assistance to implement post-2015 development agenda, especially in areas concerning environmental protection and climate change, said Binh.

In the context of the tour, Ban Ki-moon is expected to meet with the Communist Party of Vietnam General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, attend inauguration ceremony of the One UN House and visit UN agencies in Vietnam, according to Binh. Endi
