Dutch cyclist Wild wins first stage of Tour of Chongming 2015

Dutch cyclist Kirsten Wild of Team Hitec Products won the opening stage of the Tour of Chongming Island 2015 here on Wednesday.

The 33-year-old defending champion clocked two hours, 45 minutes and 53 seconds to finish the 107-kilometer stage, beating American Shelley Olds of Bigla Pro Cycling Team to the second place and Italian Giorgia Bronzini of team Wiggle Honda to third.

"It's my third time to be here, and I'm satisfied with the results today," said Wild who also attributed her success to the weather and teamwork.

Bai Yue of Team China Chongming-Liv-Champion System Pro Cycling was 15th, the best result among Chinese riders, and she also became the top ranked Asian rider.

As for team classification, Italian team Ale Cipollini took the lead among 18 teams in total, followed by French team Poitou-Charentes Futuroscope 86, while French National Team won the third place. Chongming-Liv-Champion System Pro Cycling Team and the Chinese national team placed sixth and 17th respectively.

The Tour of Chongming Island 2015, the highest level of its kind in Asia, consists of three stages with a total of 304 kilometers, and will end on May 15. The event is open to athletes of the women's elite category. Endi
