Employees of major Riga hospital face graft probe

Xinhua, May 13, 2015 Adjust font size:

The Latvian anti-corruption bureau has started a criminal probe against several employees at one of Latvia's leading hospitals who are suspected of soliciting and accepting bribes, the local media reported on Tuesday.

The graft suspects work at the Oncology Centre of Latvia and the Centre of Diagnostic Radiology of Riga East Clinical University Hospital (RAKUS), said Laura Dusa, a representative of the Latvian Corruption Prevention Bureau.

In her words, the anti-corruption bureau has obtained sufficient evidence to believe that the hospital's employees have been accepting bribes from patients who wanted to jump the queue and receive diagnostic services faster.

RAKUS representative Inguna Potetinova said the hospital's administration was informed of the criminal probe and was cooperating with the Corruption Prevention Bureau to provide investigators with all the necessary information. Endit
