Fijian Parliament passes motion to re-join IPU

Xinhua, May 12, 2015 Adjust font size:

The Fijian Parliament has passed a motion to re-join the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in a session on Tuesday.

Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama, who moved the motion in the parliament, said the move would strengthen Fiji's democracy and foster relations with other parliaments around the world.

He added that this would encourage dialogue between Fijian institutions and others around the world to work for peace and cooperation and strengthen the principle of representative democracy.

"It works in close cooperation with the UN whose objectives it shares as well as inter-governmental and non-governmental organizations on every continent," Bainimarama said.

As a global organization of parliaments, IPU works to establish democracy, peace and cooperation among peoples. Endi
