HK's major trade fairs in April attracts over 220,000 visitors

Xinhua, May 11, 2015 Adjust font size:

Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) Monday announced that the seven major trade fairs that it held in April has attracted around 224,000 buyers, up 1 percent from the same period of last year.

The seven trade fairs included lighting, electronics, technology, houseware, home textiles and gifts, as well as a printing and packaging show. Of the 224,000 buyers, about 57 percent were from overseas and Chinese Mainland.

Growth in the number of buyers from the United States and European countries were recorded, with that from the United States and Britain both growing 4 percent; Germany and Switzerland rising 6 percent and 10 percent respectively, according to HKTDC, Hong Kong's major exhibitor.

HKTDC Deputy Executive Director Benjamin Chau said the positive figures indicated that Hong Kong remains a favorable sourcing platform despite some uncertainties such as the slowing economic growth in certain Asian economies, the pending U.S. rate hike and the strengthening Hong Kong currency.

Chau added that the fairs have made an enormous economic benefit of 1.3 billion HK dollars (about 16.7 million U.S. dollars) to Hong Kong as the Hong Kong Tourism Board figures showed that per capita spending of overnight MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conference, Exhibitions) visitors averaged over 9,400 HK dollars during their stay in Hong Kong.
