Thousands of state-run buses went off the roads in the Indian capital Monday, following a strike called by drivers over the killing of one of their colleagues in road rage.
The strike gave commuters, including school children, a harrowing time and they had to shell out extra money to take auto- rickshaws.
The driver of the Delhi Transport Corporation bus was on Sunday morning beaten to death by a biker with his helmet, after the vehicle hit the bike, in which the pillion rider fell on the road.
Police have arrested the biker late Sunday night.
The Delhi government has announced a compensation of 5 lakh rupees (10,000 U.S. dollars) for his family and has promised to give one member of his family a government job.
Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has also ordered a probe into the incident, which has raised concerns over the safety of bus drivers and conductors. Endi
