Andy Murray defeated Spanish number one, Rafael Nadal on clay for the first time in his career to win the Mutua Madrid Open on Sunday.
The number two seed in Madrid needed just one hour and 28 minutes to stun Nadal and the partisan home crowd to lift the 10th Masters title of his career, but the first Masters he has ever won on clay and he did so without dropping a set during the entire week in Madrid.
It ends a fantastic seven days for the Scot, who on Monday claimed the title in the Munich Open - his first clay title of any kind.
He carried that confidence into Sunday's match where he never gave a chance to Nadal, who was looking for his fifth title at home and who had looked to be returning to form in Madrid.
Murray was aggressive in his game, but hit few unforced errors and Nadal was never able to find his rhythm and the final game of the match typified his approach to the match. Battling to save the match, Nadal went 15-30 up on Murray's serve, but Murray kept his calm and closed out the game and thus the match.
Saturday saw reigning Wimbledon Champions and this year's number four seed, Petra Kvitkova lift the women's title with a straight set win over unseeded Russian, Sveltana Kuznetsova. Endi
