Etihad plane diverted on "security alert"

Xinhua, May 10, 2015 Adjust font size:

An Etihad Airways plane from Cairo was diverted to a military air base in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) early Sunday following a security alert, local media reported.

The plane, bound for Abu Dhabi, landed safely in the Al-Minhad military air base, 24 km south of Dubai, reported The National, a UAE daily.

All 135 people aboard the Airbus 321, including seven crew members, left the plane, the report said, quoting an Etihad spokesperson, who did not specify the exact security warning.

On May 3, a similar incident happened when an Air Arabia flight from Kuwait to Sharjahwas diverted to the same military base after an unruly passenger threatened that the plane would "explode."

None of the passengers or the crew were hurt and the unruly passenger was taken into custody. Endit
