African Leaders to attend Liberia's Ebola free declaration ceremony

The Ebola virus that rages in the West African state of Liberia is now all but history as World Health Organization (WHO) and other leading diseases control organizations witnessed the declaration of Liberia, an Ebola-free country.

The announcement was received with happiness among the citizens and residents who suffered as a result of the world's worst ebola outbreak in history.

The government of Liberia is expected to commemorate the declaration by the WHO of Liberia as Ebola free on Monday May 11, 2015, a Foreign Ministry release emailed today to reporters said.

Foreign dignitaries who stood firm with the government and people of Liberia during the turmoil are expected to grave the celebration Monday, the release said.

The President of Togo and Supervisor of ECOWAS initiatives in the fight against Ebola Faure Gnassingbe will arrive in Liberia on to join President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf and the people of Liberia in a ceremony commemorating this milestone victory over the Ebola Virus Disease, the release continued.

Also to grace the occasion is the President of the ECOWAS Commission Kadré Désiré Ouédraogo, the Foreign Minister of Ghana Hanna Tetteh and the Health Minister of Nigeria, Dr. Khaliru Alhassan.

Others also expected to form part of Monday's historic gathering will include several high profiled dignitaries from across Africa and the world.

The ceremony is scheduled to be held at the Centennial Memorial Pavilion, where President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf will formally receive the Ebola free declaration from the WHO.

It comes in the wake of the successful meeting of the 42 consecutive days of no new cases as required by the WHO to declare a country free from Ebola. Endi
