Top leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) Kim Jong Un sent a congratulatory message Saturday to Russian President Vladimir Putin on the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II, the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported.
"Seven decades have passed since the great victory in the fight for crushing Fascism, but the heroic feats the Russian people performed by unhesitatingly dedicating their youth and lives to the peace and security of humankind still remain shining," Kim said in the message.
Kim said he believes the long-standing traditional friendship between the two countries will grow stronger at a new level and he wished Putin and his people a bigger success in building a powerful Russia.
The Central Committee of the ruling Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) also sent congratulatory messages to the ruling and major political parties of Russia and the countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).
The WPK hopes the inter-party friendly and cooperative relations between the DPRK, Russia and CIS countries will grow stronger, the KCNA said.
On Friday, Putin sent a medal to Kim ahead of V-Day celebrations, the KCNA reported, saying the medal was presented to Yang Hyong Sop, vice president of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly, by Russian ambassador to the DPRK Alexandr Matsegora.
Matsegora held a reception to mark the 70th anniversary of Russia's victory over Nazi Germany in WWII on the same day. Senior DPRK officials, including Yang, Vice Premier Ro Tu Chol and Cultural Minister Pak Chun Nam, attended it.
"The DPRK-Russia friendly relations are developing at a fresh higher leve under the special care of the top leaders of the two countries," Yang said at the reception, noting that the DPRK will closely cooperate with Russia to consolidate their friendly relations and ensure regional peace and security.
