World Indoor Championships runner-up Li Jinzhe of China jumped off 8.26 meters to claim the title of the men's long jump at the 2015 China Athletics Elite here on Friday.
Li's winning mark is the third best result so far this outdoor season, 24 centimeters shy of Jeff Henderson's world leading 8.50 when the American cruised to the top podium in Walnut, California last month.
The 25-year-old Beijing native only needed his first jump the secure the victory at 8.26m. After fouled in the second round, the confident Li just gave up the four jumps left.
"To be honest, I did not give my best in the first jump. I just wanted to avoid foul and jumped a valid result," said Li after the match. "I took this competition as a training session and I am pretty satisfied with my performance today."
Wang Jianan of Team Jiangsu failed to meet the entry standard of 8.10m for the Beijing World Championships as the world junior champion leaped over 8.09 to finish second. Hubei's Tang Gongchen trailed one centimeter behind to take the bronze.
In the men's high jump event, Shandong's Zhang Guowei, who improved his personal best to 2.35m last month, claimed the title at 2.29m. Beijing's Wang Yu, a graduate student of Tsinghua University took the silver at 2.25 in front of the jubilant crowds as the competitions were staged in Tsinghua campus. Guo Jingqi of Liaoning finished third at 2.20m on count-back.
In the women's triple jump event, Li Yanmei of Guangdong and Wang Wujing of Fujian both leaped over 14.10m, the second best mark so far this season, but Li took the title after the count-back. Wang Rong of Zhejiang finished third at 13.62m. Endi
