Nick Clegg, leader of the British Liberal Democrats Party, Friday announced his resignation as the party leader after "crushing" defeat in the 2015 General Election.

Nick Clegg is also the ex-deputy Prime Minister of Britain.

Clegg said he would quit as leader after a crushing set of losses, as his party members Vince Cable, Danny Alexander, David Laws, Simon Hughs and Charles Kennedy all failed to lock seats in the House of Commons of Britain during the election. Some of them are ex-senior officials in the previous Conservatives-Lib Dems coalition government.

Earlier in the day, Clegg admitted: "It is now painfully clear this has been a cruel and punishing night for the Liberal Democrats." Endit
