HK bans import of poultry meat, products from three U.S. states

Xinhua, May 8, 2015 Adjust font size:

Hong Kong has banned the import of poultry meat and products from the states of Minnesota, Iowa and Wisconsin of the United States with immediate effect, Hong Kong's Center for Food Safety (CFS) said on Friday.

The action was taken in view of the latest development that the states have declared a state of emergency due to outbreaks of highly pathogenic avian influenza.

A government spokesman said the CFS has contacted U.S. authorities over the issue and will closely monitor information issued by the World Organization for Animal Health on avian influenza outbreaks in the country.

Hong Kong imported about 267,000 tones of chilled and frozen poultry meat and about 530 million poultry eggs from the United States in 2014. Endi
