Brazil residents request 5.2 million Olympic tickets

Xinhua, May 8, 2015 Adjust font size:

Brazilian residents applied for 5.2 million tickets during the first sales phase, organizers said on Thursday.

The deadline for the first installment of tickets ended on Wednesday, with volleyball proving the most popular sport, according to Rio2016.com.

Football was the next most sought-after event followed by basketball.

A draw will take place for events where demand exceeded supply, with results to be announced in June.

A second batch of tickets, for which priority will be given to those who were unsuccessful in the first phase, will go on sale in July.

A final first-come first-served online sales phase will begin in October.

Non-Brazilian residents are able to apply for tickets via authorized resellers in their territory.

About 7.5 million tickets will be put on sale for the first Olympics in South America, to be held from August 5 to 21 next year. Endite
