Germany's benchmark DAX index closes up

The benchmark DAX index at the Frankfurt Stock Exchange on Thursday closed up slightly by 57.82 points and closed at 11,407.97 points.

The blue-chip index plunged in the morning but managed to recover in the afternoon and finally gained 0.51 percent.

The yield of the German government bond went up to a very high level, which concerned investors, according to local analyst.

In the afternoon, information from the federal statistics office said new orders in Germany in March were 0.9 percent higher, which helped the DAX index to recover.

HeidelbergCement AG topped the list of risers with an increase of 3.45 percent. Commerzbank AG advanced by 3.41 percent. Beiersdorf Aktiengesellschaft, a personal care company, gained 3.19 percent. The semiconductor company Infineon Technologies AG climbed by 2.73 percent and the utilities company went up by 2.49 percent.

Allianz SE dropped the most by 4.25 percent. Siemens AG lost 1.54 percent. Deutsche Telekom AG slipped by 0.36 percent and BASF SE went down by 0.25 percent.

The turnover stood at 5.2 billion euros (around 5.88 billion U.S. dollars). Allianz SE was the most traded share of the day with a turnover of 602.86 million euros. (1 euro = 1.13 U.S. dollars). Endit
