Berlin marks 10th anniversary of Holocaust Memorial

A ceremony held at the "Field of Stelae" here on Thursday to mark the 10th anniversary of the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe saw two Holocaust survivors, German politicians, representatives of the Central Council of Jews in Germany attend.

Ahead of the event, culture commissioner Monika Gruetters said in a statement: "The murder of the six million Jews, among them 1.5 million children, was a deliberate genocide. The crime against humanity must be remembered for all time."

The memorial, located in the center of Berlin, was built to remember the up to six million Jews killed in Nazi Germany during World War II. It is the central Holocaust memorial in Germany, which has attracted hundreds of thousands of visitors a year since its inauguration in May 2005. Endit
