Rome's Fiumicino airport closed due to fire at terminal 3

Xinhua, May 7, 2015 Adjust font size:

Rome's fiumicino airport was temporarily closed on Thursday because of a fire at Terminal 3. Three people were taken to hospital due to smoke inhalation.

According to ANSA, the fire which broke out around midnight should have been caused by a malfunctioned electric circuit in a restaurant and then spread to areas of stores and baggage hall.

Sources from the airport said the act of arson had been ruled out.

Operations are reportedly to remain suspended until 14:00. A statement by Italy's Alitalia Airline advised all passengers scheduled to fly during those hours not to come to the airport. Roads to the airport were also closed. Endit
