Atletico Mineiro clinch draw in Libertadores thriller

Xinhua, May 7, 2015 Adjust font size:

Leonardo Silva headed in a 94th-minute equalizer to earn Atletico Mineiro a 2-2 draw with Brazilian rivals Internacional in their Copa Libertadores round of 16 first leg clash on Thursday.

Valdivia had given Internacional the lead on the hour by nodding in Alan Costa's headed pass moments after being introduced as a substitute at the Independencia stadium.

Earlier, a long-range effort from Douglas Santos drew the hosts level after Internacional's Lisandro Lopez opened the scoring in the second minute.

Atletico are seeking their second title in three years while Internacional are aiming to win South America's most prized club trophy for a third time.

The return leg will be played at Internacional's Beira-Rio stadium next Wednesday.

In other Copa Libertadores matches, Paraguay's Club Guarani defeated Brazil's Corinthians 2-0 and Sao Paulo overcame Cruzeiro 1-0 in their all-Brazilian duel. Endi
