Two women police sustained injuries as unknown people attacked the vehicle they were riding in in the western Herat province with Herat city as its capital 640 km west of Kabul on Wednesday, police spokesman in the province Abdul Rauf Ahmadi said.

"Two terrorists riding a motorbike hurled hand grenade on a bus of women police in Herat city at 05:30 p.m. local time today, injuring two police women officers, one of them in critical condition," Ahmadi told Xinhua.

He attributed the attack to the enemies of peace, a reference to the Taliban militants for organizing the attack.

Taliban militants who are fighting to regain power have yet to make comment.
