Volunteers taking lead in relief in Nepal's quake-hit Sindhupalchowk

Volunteers and community organizations have led the relief efforts in Nepal's earthquake- rattled Sindhupalchowk region, local media reported Monday.

The Kathmandu Post reported that residents from capital Kathmandu traveled to the severely-hit region, bringing about supplies to villages.

Local governance seems to be paralyzed in some worst-hit districts including Sindhupalchowk, according to the English newspaper. "There is a political vacuum at the local level,"the newspaper claimed.

More than one week after the April 25 earthquake, medical teams and relief goods have failed to reach the remote areas of quake- hit districts.

The 7.9 magnitude quake has claimed lives of over 7,000 and injured more than 14,000 in the country. Endi
