Jordanian prince says running for FIFA presidency to defend its reputation

HRH Prince Ali, FIFA vice president representing Asia and chairman of the Asian Football Development Project, said Sunday he was running for FIFA presidency to defend FIFA's reputation.

The globally-renowned sports of footballs could have been better if there is the right persons heading FIFA, said the Prince at the opening of the 2015 Soccerex Asian Forum.

The prince, who is also head of the Jordan Football Association, said his first motive to run for the FIFA presidency was to make the desired change.

"FIFA was not working properly. There were many reports that were not published as well as many recommendations that were not discussed and were shelved. This harms the reputation of FIFA, therefore, there is a need for change," the Prince said.

Prince Ali is one of three candidates challenging incumbent FIFA President Sepp Blatter who is seeking re-election for a fifth four-year term. Elections are slated for May 29th.

The Prince, who said will visit many football union across the world, said if elected he will develop a clear strategy to improve football.

The 2015 Soccerex Asian Forum at the Dead Sea brings together international football leaders, figures, clubs and federations for a two-day convention starting on Sunday.

The two-day 2015 Soccerex Asian Forum provides a platform for networking and knowledge exchange between East and West.

Legendary Argentine footballer Diego Maradona will close the forum with a rare personal insight into his amazing career, including winning the FIFA World Cup with Argentina and the "Hand of God" goal against England in 1986. He will also be sharing his Asian coaching experience from the time he spent as manager of the Dubai based Al Wasl FC.
