Xinhua, May 2, 2015 Adjust font size:

A South Korean student with permanent residency in the United States was arrested on April 22 for his attempt to illegally enter the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), the official KCNA news agency reported Saturday.

The report identified the suspect as Won Moon Joo, a 21-year-old student of New York University living in New Jersey, adding that he was caught trying to enter the DPRK after crossing the Yalu River from Dandong, a Chinese border city.

Won is under investigation by the DPRK's relevant institution, the state media said. He has admitted that his illegal entry is a serious violation of the law of the DPRK, according to the KCNA.

The report did not provide information about the motivation of Won's crossing into the country. Endi
