Schools in quake-hit Nepal to keep shut till May 14

Xinhua, May 1, 2015 Adjust font size:

Nepal's government has decided to shut down educational institutions in 11 quake-hit districts till mid-May amid aftershock fear.

Local newspaper the Kathmandu Post reported on Friday that the closure will continue to take effect in districts including Kathmandu and worst-hit Gorkha.

Infrastructures of schools and colleges need technical inspection, Hari Lamsal, Education Ministry spokesperson, was quoted by the newspaper as saying.

The educational institutions were shut earlier for five days following the earthquake on Saturday.

The closure has been extended mainly for the security of students, the spokesman was quoted as saying. Endi
