Xinhua, April 30, 2015 Adjust font size:

Tokyo stocks opened sharply lower in early trading Thursday as investor sentiment was dampened by weaker-than-expected U.S. gross domestic product data for the first quarter of 2015.

At 9:15 a.m. local time, the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average was down 329.22 points, or 1.64 percent, from Tuesday to 19,729.73. Tokyo markets were closed on Wednesday for a holiday.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange fell 23.08 points, or 1.42 percent, to 1,604. 35.

All 33 industry sectors declined, except for mining and energy issues. Decliners were led by information and communication, pharmaceuticals and foods. Endi
