James Harden scored 28 points as the Houston Rockets beat the Dallas Mavericks 103-94 Tuesday night at Toyota Center to win their first-round playoff series 4-1, making their way to the NBA Western Conference semi-finals for the first time since 2009.

Dwight Howard had 18 points and 19 rebounds. Josh Smith scored 20 points off the bench and Terrence Jones had 10 of his 15 in the fourth quarter.

The Mavericks went just 5 of 26 on 3-pointers. Monta Ellis led Dallas with 25 points and Dirk Nowitzki scored 22.

Houston led early in the first quarter before the Mavericks scored a 7-2 run in the third to cut it to 82-75. Then Jones took over, making a three-point play followed by a corner 3 to push it to 94-85 to seal the victory.

The Rockets will face either the San Antonio Spurs or the Los Angeles Clippers in the Western Conference semifinals. Endi
