WASHINGTON -- The U.S. government should convey to Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe that the mutual defense treaty requires cessation of all its "provocative behaviors," including denying the existence of "comfort women," former U.S. Congressman David Wu said Tuesday.
In an article posted on his personal website (www.davidwu.us), Wu said the U.S. response to Abe's series of irritants, ranging from comfort women to constitutional revision in a region still raw from World War II, "should be both subtle and strong." (US-Abe)

WASHINGTON -- U.S. President Barack Obama said on Tuesday there was no excuse for that kind of violence that occurred in Baltimore in the past days, calling for the country to do some "soul searching" as the race-related riots convulsed the largest city of U.S. State of Maryland.
"They're not protesting, they're not making a statement, they' re stealing," Obama told a joint press conference with visiting Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, referring to those involved in violence, looting and arson after the funeral held for Freddie Gray, a 25-year-old African American who died after suffering a spine injury in police custody earlier this month. UNITED NATIONS -- The UN Security Council on Tuesday decided that all states shall prevent direct or indirect supply of weapons to Cote d'Ivoire given that the country's situation poses a threat to regional peace and security.
The 15-nation body "decides, for a period ending on 30 April 2016, that all States shall take the necessary measures to prevent the direct or indirect supply, sale or transfer to Cote d'Ivoire, from their territories or by their nationals, or using their flag vessels or aircraft, of arms and any related lethal material, whether or not originating in their territories," said a UN resolution released Tuesday. LAGOS -- Up to 300 unidentified females have been rescued by Nigerian troops in restive northeast Sambisa forest following a daring and precise operation, a military spokesperson said on Tuesday.
