Singapore's Changi Airport handles more passengers in March but traffic in Q1 down

Singapore's Changi Airport handled 13.1 million passengers in the first quarter of 2015, which is a 0.9 percent dip when compared with the same period last year, Changi Airport Group said on Monday.

Although Changi airport handled 4.54 million passengers in March, 0.9 percent higher than the same period in 2014, the traffic for the first quarter was slightly down.

Aircraft movements in the first quarter declined by 2.5 percent to 84,060 take offs and landings.Traffic was weaker across most regions except for to and from South Asia.

The airport has announced various initiatives to boost traffic numbers. For transit travelers, Changi airport decided to reduce the passenger service fee from 9 Singapore dollars now to 3 Singapore dollars in July. For airlines, they will continue to receive discounts for aircraft parking and landing, as well as aerobridge charges. Changi airport also encouraged airlines to add services or start new flights.
