Tokyo stocks almost flat in morning

Tokyo stocks were almost unchanged Monday morning amid caution ahead of upcoming monetary policy decisions in the United States and Japan and earnings results from major domestic companies.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average was down 1.74 points, or 0. 01 percent, from Friday to 20,018.30. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange gained 1.20 points, or 0.07 percent, at 1,620.04.

Major gainers included glass and ceramics, textiles and retail issues, while shipping and insurance led decliners. Endi
