Nepal authorities said Sunday that more than 2,430 people died in the country one day after a massive earthquake struck the impoverished Himalayan nation.

At least 1,152 people were killed in capital Kathmandu, and the number of injured nationwide climbed to 5,900, they said, warning that the death toll would rise further as search and rescue efforts were hampered by damaged roads, ineffective communication lines and landslides. (Nepal-Quake-Death)

ISLAMABAD -- At least 30 people were killed and 150 others injured in separate rain-related accidents in Pakistan's northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Sunday, local media reported.

LONDON -- Britain on Sunday deployed search and rescue crews, dogs and medical experts to support the relief effort in Nepal, where a powerful earthquake has killed over 2,000 people and injured about 5,000 others.

MOSCOW -- Russia sent two planes carrying rescue team and humanitarian aid to quake-hit Nepal, the Emergency Situations Ministry said Sunday.
