A total of 2,152 people have been killed and about 5,000 others inured in a powerful earthquake that struck Nepal at midday Saturday, National police spokesman Kamal Singh Bam said on Sunday.

The 7.9-magnitude quake jolted central, western, mid-western and far-western parts of Nepal, which was followed by at least 15 aftershocks, with the last one of 6.7 magnitude occurred just hours ago. (Nepal-Quake Death Toll)

TOKYO -- Hundreds of Japanese rallied in downtown Tokyo on Sunday in protest against the government's move of building a replacement in Okinawa for the U.S. Futenma airbase in the Japanese southernmost island prefecture.

Protesters, who held banners that read "No War, No Base in Henoko," "The government should follow Okinawa's public opinion" and "Stop constructing new base in Henoko," shouted slogans through speakers. (Japan-Base-Protest)

KUNDUZ, Afghanistan -- A total of 51 people including 43 Taliban militants have been killed over the past two days in northern Kunduz province, spokesman for provincial government Abdul Wasi Basil said Sunday.

"Clash between Taliban rebels and security forces has claimed the lives of 51 people including 43 insurgents and eight security personnel since Saturday," Wasi told Xinhua. (Afghanistan-Attack)

ADEN, Yemen -- At least 15 civilians were killed and more than 25 others wounded when gunfire and tank shells hit several houses in Yemen's third largest city of Taiz on Sunday morning, a government official told Xinhua.

"Intense clashes erupted between Houthi gunmen and tribal militia loyal to President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi inside crowded neighborhoods of Taiz and a lot of houses were damaged by shells," the local official in Taiz said on condition of anonymity. (Yemen-Battles)

BAGHDAD -- At least seven people were killed and some 32 others wounded on Sunday in three car bomb attacks targeting busy and commercial areas in and near the Iraqi capital of Baghdad, an Interior Ministry source said.

One of the attacks occurred in the town of Mahmoudiyah, some 30 km south of Baghdad, when a car bomb parking at a commercial area near passport office in the central part of the town detonated, leaving a civilian killed and nine others wounded, the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.
