Quake death toll rises to 34 in India

The death toll from the earthquake which rocked Nepal and part of India on Saturday has risen to 34 in India while hundreds are injured, said officials.

The Indian Home Ministry said in a statement that 34 deaths have been confirmed so far, with 23 deaths in Bihar, eight in Uttar Pradesh and three in West Bengal in north and east India.

Five teams of the National Disaster Response Force have been sent to Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh and one each to Darbhanga, Supaul, Motihari and Gopalganj in Bihar.

Medical and paramedic personnel as well as detector machines, cutters which can cut steel, concrete and wood are being dispatched to the quake struck areas. Endi
