Georgian war veterans to get financial aid from government

Xinhua, April 24, 2015 Adjust font size:

World War II veterans will each receive a sum of 1,000 lari (about 450 U.S. dollars) in financial aid to mark the 70th anniversary of the victory of the world anti-fascist war, the Georgian government said Friday.

"As of today, we have 1,800 war veterans and 500 citizens who lost breadwinners," Maia Tskitishvili, a government spokesperson, told reporters.

"The government of Georgia will allocate about 2 million lari (900,000 dollars) to them to help them greet the 70th anniversary in the way that they deserve to," Tskitishvili said.

Georgia, once part of the Soviet Union, lost more than 300,000 people in the war against German fascists during WWII. The country will hold a series of commemorative activities in the victory day of the world anti-fascist war in May. Endi
