Sides start drafting final nuclear deal in Vienna

Xinhua, April 24, 2015 Adjust font size:

Drafting of the final Iranian nuclear agreement has started here, an Iranian negotiator said, heading toward a final solution for the decade-long dispute over Tehran's nuclear issue.

Hamid Baidinejad, Iran's nuclear negotiator, told media that "drafting the final deal has started," without giving further details.

Iran and five United Nations Security Council permanent members plus Germany (P5+1) started a fresh round of negotiations here on Wednesday.

Under the framework document reached on April 2, Tehran agreed to scale back its nuclear capacity and would allow more intrusive verification by the UN nuclear agency when the final deal is agreed upon.

Sides involved are aiming to reach a final agreement by the end-of-June deadline.

The timing of sanction relief is considered to be a tough issue. In the final talks, Iran wants Western states to relieve sanctions as soon as the deal is agreed upon, while Western states want a gradual relief.

Western states have long been suspicious of Iran's atomic plan, believing Tehran might develop nuclear weapons under the civilian program. Endit
