Clash leaves seven Afghan police dead

Seven police were killed and three others injured as anti-government militants overran a police checkpoint in the northwest Badghis province early Thursday, spokesman for provincial government Mir Wais Mirzakwal said. "A group of Taliban rebels attacked a police checkpoint in Morichaq area of Balamirghab district along the border with Turkmenistan early Thursday, killing seven police and wounding three others," Mirzakwal told Xinhua.

Three more policemen have gone missing, he added.

He also added that units of Afghan national army had been dispatched to the area to ensure law and order there. Enditem
