42 killed in fresh infighting north of Damascus

Xinhua, April 22, 2015 Adjust font size:

As many as 42 militants were killed in fresh infighting north of the capital Damascus, a monitoring group reported Wednesday.

Intense battles raged between an array of militant groups and the rival Islamic State (IS) militants at the al-Mhasseh area in the mountainous al-Qalamoun region, north of Damascus, said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

It said the death toll includes 30 rebels fighters and 12 IS militants.

The UK-based watchdog group said IS managed to capture large swathes of al-Mhasseh, adding that IS also severed their rival militants' supply line between the Jordanian border and the Syrian desert.

The militants' infighting in various parts of Syria has dragged on, due to conflicts on control of vital areas in the war-torn country. Endit
