Xinhua, April 22, 2015 Adjust font size:

Vietnam's International Kite Festival 2015 kicked off in the southern beach city of Vung Tau on Wednesday, attracting hundreds of local and foreign kite artisans.

According to organizers, during the annual week-long festival themed "Flying with Vietnam,"kite artisans and connoisseurs from Germany, France, Italy, New Zealand, Australia and host Vietnam will showcase their kites, including traditional six-sided Japanese fighter kites called Rokkaku, Vietnamese kites with bamboo flutes, huge kites with shapes of human figures and sport kites.

There will be competitions in kite making and kite releasing. A special night kite performance with sound and lights will also be held on Saturday at the Paradise Golf Club.

Sideline events will take place along with the kite festival, including a Food Festival from Thursday to Sunday with the participation of local restaurants, hotels and handicraft villages. Specialties from different regions of Vietnam, especially seafood, will feature the event, together with authentic dishes from Malaysia, Thailand and Ukraine.

Artistic performances will also entertain visitors during the festival, which will wrap up on April 28, according to organizers. Endi
