Funds threaten Nigeria's trip to China for ITTF Championships

Xinhua, April 21, 2015 Adjust font size:

The Nigeria Table Tennis Federation (NTTF) on Tuesday said that it still lacked the means to participate at the upcoming Qoros 2015 World Table Tennis Championships in Suzhou, China.

The competition is slated for April 26 to May 3.

The task of raising the required funds for the trip was still ongoing, the NTTF's Technical Director, Anderson Bankole, told reporters in Lagos, Nigeria's economic hub.

"We are still expecting to receive funds to facilitate our players' participation at the tournament," he added, noting that it is very important that they attend because it will improve their world rankings.

Bankole said the federation had yet to get a response from the National Sports Commission (NSC) from an earlier appeal for funds.

"If we hear positively from the NSC, definitely our players will attend, and even if we don't, we will strive to ensure that our players partake in it," he added.

"The federation will do all within its reach for the players to participate in the tournament in China," he said.

Nigeria would be represented by four male and three female players at the tournament. Endi
