Russian fighters to conduct demonstrational flights over Amur during V-Day celebration

Xinhua, April 21, 2015 Adjust font size:

Several fighters of Russia's eastern military district will conduct demonstrational flights over the Amur River during the Victory Day celebration on May 9, the district's spokesman said Tuesday.

"Pairs of Su-27, Su-30 and the newest Su-35 jets will conduct flights over the Amur River in the Khabarovsk region," Alexander Gordeev was quoted by the RIA Novosti news agency as saying, adding that the warplanes will fly at the minimal possible altitude of about 200 meters.

This will be the first time when Russian warplanes in the Far East participate in the events to mark the victory over Nazi Germany in the Great Patriotic War, Russia's term for World War Two.

The spokesman added that about 7,500 troops as well as 320 combat vehicles, planes and warships will also take part in the parade in eastern military district on the celebration day.

Russia confirmed earlier that up to 26 heads of state will participate in the May 9 Victory Day celebration and that Moscow had also invited 16 countries to send their military units and take part in the parade at the Red Square with nine countries having confirmed their participation. Endi
