Islamic State claims attack against Spanish embassy in Tripoli

The Islamic State has claimed responsibility for a bomb which exploded in the early hours of Tuesday morning outside the Spanish embassy in the Libyan capital of Tripoli.
The explosion of what has been described as a "medium sized" device did not cause any victims given that the embassy building has been empty since it was evacuated last July, but did cause damage to a part of the wall close to the security gate.
Spanish State TV network RTVE reported Islamic State had claimed responsibility for the attack on its social networking sites.
The Spanish embassy is the third foreign embassy in Libya to be attacked in the past fortnight. April 12 saw two people killed by a bomb which exploded outside of the South Korean embassy, while the same day saw a further explosion outside of the embassy of Morocco.
Libya has seen a major deterioration in its security situation following the fall of Muammar Gaddafi in 2011. The subsequent inability to maintain a stable government has seen the country deteriorate into feuding factions creating a power vacuum. Endit
