Hanover sack head coach Tayfun Korkut

Xinhua, April 20, 2015 Adjust font size:

Struggling Bundesliga side Hanover sacked head coach Tayfun Korkut with immediate effect, the club confirmed in an official statement on Monday.

Hanover and Tayfun Korkut part company after 16 months. In 46 official games Korkut reaped 14 wins, 11 draws and 21 defeats. Not enough, as Hanover slumped into the relegation battle, sitting only two points adrift of the relegation play-off spot.

After Saturday's heavy 4-0 loss to Leverkusen, Hanover suffered the 14th loss of the season and still wait for the first win since the start of the second half of the season. As a consequence, the club sacked the 41-year-old coach due to poor performances.

"Hanover suspended its head coach Tayfun Korkut on Monday morning. Tayfun Korkut was informed by sporting director Dirk Dufner, who also briefed the players," the club said on its official homepage.

Besides that, 15th placed Hanover stated that they are on the hunt for a new coach, "who will take care of the team against Hoffenheim."
