Pakistani PM condemns deadly bomb attacks in Afghanistan

Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Saturday strongly condemned the bomb blasts in Afghanistan's eastern Jalalabad city which killed and injured dozens of people.

Afghan officials said a suicide bomber blew himself up in front of the Kabul Bank, leaving 33 people dead and more than 100 others injured in Jalalabad, the capital of eastern Nangarhar province, on Saturday morning.

Local media said the Islamic State (IS) had claimed responsibility for the attack.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said terrorism is a common enemy of both the countries which are now taking joint steps to eradicate this menace.

"Such acts of violence would not weaken our resolve to take action against them till the last of terrorists and their supporters are eliminated," a statement from the PM office said.

The prime minister said terrorism would soon be wiped out of this region, ushering in an era of peace, stability and prosperity to the immense benefit of the people living here.

He said Pakistan had targeted these terrorists in their hideouts and dismantled their networks with effective strategy.

"Pakistan would be happy to provide any assistance to Afghanistan to successfully fight terrorism," he added.

The Pakistani Foreign Ministry also condemned the deadly terrorist attack in Jalalabad, saying such cowardly and indiscriminate attacks against civilians have no justification under any circumstances.

"We send our deepest sympathies and condolences to the families of the victims and pray for speedy recovery of the injured," the Foreign Ministry said in a statement. Endi
