1st LD: 22 killed in suicide bombing in Afghanistan

Xinhua, April 18, 2015 Adjust font size:

At least 22 people were killed while over 50 others wounded in a suicide bomb attack in Jalalabad city, the provincial capital of eastern Afghan province of Nangarhar on Saturday morning, police said.

"A suicide bomber detonated his explosive jacket near a local bank building, causing 22 killed and more than 50 wounded," Fazil Ahmad Shirzad, the provincial police chief, told Xinhua.

The attack took place near the New Kabul Bank branch and the city's municipality office building at around 8:00 a.m. (0330 GMT) in the city, 120 km east of Afghan capital of Kabul.

Police found and safely detonated a roadside bomb near the first explosion site, leaving no causalities, the source said.

Security forces have cordoned off the area for precautionary measures.

The casualties were shifted to nearby hospitals by ambulances and police vehicles.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack yet. Endi
