Austrian Airliner Niki cancels Bratislava-Vienna connection

Xinhua, April 17, 2015 Adjust font size:

Austrian airline Niki, which made headlines at the end of last year by announcing the launch of the world's shortest international airline connection between Bratislava and Vienna, has scrapped its plan, local news agencies reported Friday.

"The planned flights from Bratislava cannot be carried out due to a change in the economic model," Niki's marketing head Milene Platzer said.

The move may be due to problems of Niki's parent company Air Berlin, which was 316 million euros (339.68 million U.S. dollars) in the red in 2013. It estimates that the loss for 2014 could have even been 366 million euros.

Bratislava Airport general director Ivan Trhlik said that the airport hadn't received any official announcement that the plans have been scrapped.( 1 euro = 1.07 U.S. dollars) Enditem
