Tokyo stocks open higher in early trading

Tokyo stocks opened slightly higher in early trading Thursday.

At 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average was up 15.18 points, or 0.08 percent, from Wednesday to 19,884.94. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange gained 5.81 points, or 0.37 percent, to 1,594.62.

Major gainers included iron and steel, mining and energy issues. Endi
