Top Russian officials declare annual income

Russian President Vladimir Putin and other officials as well as their family members on Wednesday declared their 2014 income.
According to the Kremlin and government websites, Putin earned over 7.5 million rubles (about 150,000 U.S. dollars) in the past year, which is more than twice as much as he made in 2013, while Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev took home about 8 million rubles (160,000 dollars).
Last April, Putin gave a pay rise to both himself and Medvedev, making their pay 2.65 times as high. However, their incomes are at times lower than those of many of their subordinates.
The top earner is Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Khloponin, with his income exceeding an equivalent of 5.5 million dollars.
Putin's income is much less than the sums earned by many of his fellow national leaders. For example, U.S. President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama reported an income of 481,098 dollars in 2013. Meanwhile, Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong is one of the world's highest paid political leaders with an annual salary of over 2 million dollars.
Russian officials' income declarations have been made public since 2009 when then Russian President Medvedev signed a decree requiring people with state posts in the Russian Federation, including their family members, to file annual income declarations about their assets and incomes and to make the information public.
